Exploring Miami’s Best Museums
Surfside Surrounded by Culture
Surfside is an unforgettable destination for a weekend away or a summer of fun with a mile of pristine beach, luxury beachfront hotels and culturally diverse restaurants. And while there is plenty of sun and sand in Surfside, a variety of family-friendly museums add a touch of culture to any itinerary. Make some time to explore some of Miami’s best museums, located just minutes from downtown Surfside.
Perez Art Museum Miami
The Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) is the city’s top destination for contemporary art. Housed in an
architecturally significant building by Herzog de Meuron, it is a cultural institution recognized for both its art and architecture. After a full day of inspiring local and Latin American art, take a moment to relax among the vertical gardens with a refreshing lunch from Verde, the museum’s Bayfront restaurant.
Miami Museum of Contemporary Art
The Museum of Contemporary Art is a contemporary museum located in the heart of North Miami, just minutes from Surfside. It offers visitors the opportunity to see both temporary exhibitions and exhibitions of its collection of over 600 works throughout several galleries. One of the Miami’s oldest museums, the well-established collection includes works from artists including John Baldessari, Dan Flavin, Dennis Oppenheim, Alex Katz, Edward Ruscha and Julian Schnabel.
Miami Beach Botanical Garden
The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is a 2.6-acre urban greenspace in Miami Beach founded in 1962. The garden is a lush subtropical oasis within the urban core of Miami Beach that aims to inspire and engage visitors. The garden was transformed in 2011 with a landscape renovation designed by South Florida landscape architect Raymond Jungles. Though not quite a museum, it is a spectacular place to enjoy Miami’s native flora.
A tribute to the art deco era of Miami Beach, The Wolfsonian’s collection is just as interesting as the building it’s housed. With a treasure trove of 20th Century art and artifacts, the Wolfsonian lends a historical perspective into Miami’s birth as a cosmopolitan destination. Its prime location on Washington Avenue puts it just steps away from the historically protected Art Deco District.
Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science
Recently opened, the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science located in Museum Park in Downtown Miami is the city’s latest cultural destination. Dedicated to all things science, the museum includes an impressive aquarium, planetarium, and several exhibits that explore how elements shape our world. An all-day affair, the museum is a can’t miss attraction for all ages!
