Celebrate Pi Day in Surfside
Math lovers, tech companies, students, bakeries and pizzerias around the globe will be celebrating Pi Day on Saturday, March 14. The fun holiday has its own website to celebrate the mathematical constant of π (pi). Most commonly known to be 3.14, every March on 3/14 people gather to learn more about this constant number and enjoy a slice of pie to go along with a dose of knowledge. The holiday is a great way to make learning fun for kids and adults alike and can be experienced with savory or sweet pies too. For those who are in Surfside for the occasion, here are a few ways you can celebrate no matter what your taste buds are calling for.
Since Pi Day falls on a Saturday, you could devote an entire meal to pie from start to finish. Surfside has a few places where pizza pies are served, which is always a crowd pleaser. If dining out at a sit-down restaurant is appealing to you, Rustiko Artisan Bistro has a variety of wood-fired pizzas to choose from on its Mediterranean-American menu. Rustiko is also one of Surfside’s kosher dairy restaurants and has gourmet pie options like pizza drizzled with truffle oil or topped with an over-easy egg.
A more casual alternative, Moncheese Pizza is a local spot with Italian classics for takeout or delivery. Grab a slice of classic cheese or pepperoni pizza or choose from a long list of whole pies with unique ingredients like Chicken Alfredo.

For a less conventional savory pie, head to The Greek Place for Mediterranean cuisine in a café setting with blue checkered tablecloths and hand-painted murals. Listed among the various appetizers, they have a Greek classic: Spinach Pie wrapped in phyllo dough and baked with imported feta cheese.
For those who are more interested in the sugar-filled pies, Surfside has some tasty options to inspire mathematical conversation on Pi Day. A South Florida favorite, Flanigan’s Seafood Bar & Grill has a couple sweet ways to end a meal or enjoy as an afternoon treat. Their classic Key Lime Pie has the tart taste of Florida’s Key limes on its signature graham cracker crust, served with a dollop of whipped cream. One of the restaurant’s signature desserts is the trademarked Flanigan’s Shenanigan. This one is made for sharing as it features a giant slice of walnut-candy apple pie swimming in a river of caramel, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and covered in Heath Bar crunch.
If you’re looking for a whole pie to share with the family or take to a Pi Day celebration, the Rolling Pin Bakery is frequented by locals for its freshly baked, kosher delights. Order a homemade pie for pick-up, and they will bake the most scrumptious apple or cherry pie for you, only costing $15 each.
