Paddletopia 2.0

After being a total hit last year, Surfside has decided to bring back Paddletopia for a second season and we couldn’t be more thrilled. This two-day extravaganza will be happening May 18thand 19th at the 96thstreet park, and will definitely be one for the books!
This year’s Paddletopia includes a plethora of events that are perfect for every member of the family. Presented by Surfside’s Tourism Bureau, Paddletopia is open free to the public. A floating paddleboard dock is where the fun begins with complimentary paddle boards and kayaks, provided by Miami Beach Paddleboard, to really make you feel like a pro. With yoga and fitness classes presented by Sweat Studio, Paddletopia is a great way to get active with family and friends. 
Maison Menu USA will also be there with organic juices and smoothies to ensure you are feeling fueled throughout the day! A fun-filled day with giveaways galore, you won’t want to miss out on this years’ second annual Paddletopia. 

Saturday Events:
10 AM - 2 PM: 30-minute Paddleboard and Kayak sessions
10:30 AM: Yoga class by MODO Yoga Miami Beach (BYOM - Bring Your Own Mat)
12 PM: Family Bootcamp by Nick's Performance Training

Sunday Events:

Benefits of Paddleboarding

With over 150,000 SUP (slang for stand up paddleboarders) in America alone, this sport has taken off! A cross between canoeing and surfing, paddleboarding is the ultimate sport for relaxing while getting a killer workout. If you’re curious as to the health benefits of such a fun activity, we break them down below. 

Balance: Many experienced paddle boarders develop tremendous back and core strength. Using these muscles accordingly will help you stay balanced and steady, so when you paddle over those waves you will stand strong and proud on your board. 

Strength:Paddleboarding is a full body workout, meaning that every muscle in the body is used at some point in time. Because balance is so important during SUP, your legs will be doing most of the work stabilizing your center of gravity. Your arms will also be hard at work during this exercise, maneuvering the board in the proper direction by steering the paddle. Meanwhile your core and abdominal muscles are maintaining total control of your body to stay balanced and secure.

Endurance: Endurance is key if you are looking to board across a large body of water. After mastering your balance and strength, you will create a strong stamina, which in turn will help you conquer those long-distance paddles with confidence. 

Serenity: There is something about being “one with the ocean” that helps bring those stress levels down and allows you to relax and have a more positive mindset. The calming water and vitamin D is sure to put your mind at ease.
