Surfside’s Arte Lights Up for Art Basel
Arte Gets Artsy with Installation
To celebrate Art Basel and Design/Miami, Surfside’s newest residential development, Arte, is lighting up with a custom video art installation projected directly on the 12-story building.
Everyday from December 3 - 9th, the installation will be projected on the front façade of the building - which spans over an acre – from 5:30 pm – 11:00 pm each night. Titled Ritual, the one-a-kind video work is curated by designer and producer Stuart Parr and designed by New York-based artist Sophia Hanover.
The conceptual performance piece will reflect the life around the building with a series of scenes referencing the sand and the sea of the oceanfront property. According to Hanover, the work is “a meditation on place, purpose, and the omnipresent and mystical nature of time.” The performance will take place in several acts and include a stunning projection of giant waves, shells and more marine life.
About the Artists
Sophia Hanover’s firm, Thinkcraft, is an experience-driven design studio in New York that develops curated events, retail pop-ups, interactive content, and much, much more. Her focus as a designer-artist is developing and designing for physical and digital environments through original concepts that enhance and challenge the human condition.
Working with Hanover, Stuart Parr is a multidisciplinary entrepreneur, product and architectural designer, and film producer. His work spans mediums; he is most known as an architectural designer, but has also designed a motorcycle and developed and co-produced acclaimed films such as “8 Mile” and “Southpaw.”
About the BuildingLocated at 8955 Collins Avenue, the 12-story oceanfront ‘Arte’ is the first U.S. building by renowned Italian architect Antonio Citterio. The architect and furniture designer is famous for his buildings throughout Europe and Japan and has created products for brands such as Hermes, Arclinea, Kartell, Vitra and B&B Italia.
The 16-unit luxury Arte has a dramatic stepped design that evokes both a pagoda and the lines found in Miami’s early 20th Century modernist buildings. Clad in Italian travertine stone and accented by bronze-framed windows, it will feature multiple pools, a spa, fitness room, tennis court, and residents’ lounge.
The project will also feature a curated collection of art by a selection of world class artists including the recently deceased American artist Robert Indiana, and the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson.
The project recently hit the top off milestone and is expected to be completed in early 2019. Sales at Arte are slated to launch in December.
This dreamy performance that blends art, real estate and advance technologies is one not to be missed.
