Curious about the story behind some of Surfside’s most celebrated points of interest? The Town of Surfside is offering Historical Walking Tours in partnership with HistoryMiami for three dates in 2020, right in time to celebrate the Town’s 85th Anniversary.
HistoryMiami’s Resident Historian, acclaimed South Florida expert Dr. Paul George, will lead the Historical Walking Tours on February 9, March 29 and May 3. They’ll begin at Surfside’s Community Center on 93rd Street and Collins Avenue at 11 a.m and take you on a journey through some of Surfside’s most defining moments in history.
Among the highlights is the genesis of The Surf Club in the 1930s, the iconic landmark that was a preferred prohibition era hotspot and was later frequented by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin Winston Churchill and Elizabeth Taylor.
Also on the itinerary are Surfside’s new and historic architectural gems, an overview of the Town’s commercial Harding Avenue downtown district, and even stories of Tequesta Indian burial mounds which have been discovered within Surfside’s borders.
